This week we enjoyed sharing the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes together. The children quickly noticed some familiar fairy-tale neighbours in the story and loved spotting characters they recognised. We talked about why the neighbours wouldn’t help Mr Wolf and how it feels when someone needs support, leading to some lovely conversations about kindness, helping others, and being a good friend. To bring the story to life, we wrote our own shopping lists and talked about the ingredients needed to make pancakes. When it was time to cook, the children helped to measure, pour, mix and stir the batter, watching how the ingredients changed as they combined. Outside, excitement was high for our pancake races! The children carefully carried (and sometimes bravely tossed!) their pancakes as they ran, with lots of cheering and laughter. The highlight, of course, was eating the pancakes at the end. Nothing went to waste — any leftover pieces were broken up and put out for the birds.
During our visit to the allotments, the children were very curious to see workmen investigating a drain using special cameras to look down inside the pipes. They watched carefully and asked lots of questions about what the workers were doing, leading to great conversations about how people help to fix problems and look after our local spaces.
