Right into outer space!

Claire created a magical space scene in the play room this week. The small world space play took the children far beyond the village—right into outer space! They children worked together to build a rocket using stackers and magnetic tiles, crates and cones. They decorated the night sky with planet stickers and drawings, explored ‘moon dust’, and read space related books.

Continuing the children’s interest in birds the children enjoyed feeding birds using pipe cleaners, developing their fine motor skills as they threaded and twisted, and made pine cone bird feeders. At the allotments, imaginations ran wild as we pretended to feed baby birds, by hunting for “worms”.

Using wooden arches and bricks to build balanced structures children carefully placed toy cats on top, adjusting the blocks when the cats fell and trying again. The children showed concentration, problem-solving, and fine motor control, and shared ideas about how to make the structures stronger.

On a walk around the village, the children spotted beautiful snowdrops popping up, a sure sign that spring is on its way. and enjoyed a well-earned rest in the new bus shelter.
