Sand on a big scale

We were very pleased to have 10 bags of sand delivered to top up our sandpit. The children were fantastic helpers, eagerly carrying, pouring and patting down the sand to make it just right.

We also had an unexpected – but very exciting – visit from Dorset Music. They brought along a wonderful selection of instruments, including three large drums for the children to explore. The children had the opportunity to play the drums indoors, experimenting with different sounds and rhythms, before continuing the musical fun outside in the garden during the afternoon. It was a joyful, noisy and thoroughly engaging experience for everyone!

At the allotments, the children became little weather explorers. Using sticks and ribbons, they observed which way the wind was blowing and discussed how strong it felt. Watching the ribbons flutter and stream in different directions helped them to see the wind in action.

Back in the garden, creativity and problem-solving were in full swing. The children used crates and guttering to create ramps for rolling cars, adjusting heights and angles to see how far and fast the cars would travel. They also added water to make a slippery slide, carefully testing and refining their designs.

Other activities this week included adding lolly pop sticks and small lion figures to the playdough area, energetic bouncing on the bouncy castle and a selection of puzzles.
