Fruit kebabs (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)
With the temperature soaring this week we have focused on keeping the environment comfortable and engaging. Closing the blinds, switching on the ceiling fans and eating ice lollies has helped the children to keep cool indoors. Children explored lightbox play using translucent shapes and numbers, lacing planet shapes using string, and explored the texture of “moon dust.”
Going outside early children mixed, mashed and peeled natural materials like mud, leaves, flowers, water, herbs and carrots. They made potions, opened up their cafe, and cooked pretend meals. At the allotments children used brushes to paint the mud kitchen and played hide and seek in the tall grass.
This week’s activity brought The Very Hungry Caterpillar story to life through a fun and interactive fruit kebab making session. As children created their own fruit kebabs, we reinforced the story’s themes of healthy eating and developed their fine motor skills.
